Taking legislative action against Netflix inaccessibility

Over the past two years we have been reporting on Netflix accessibility happenings and trying to advocate for increased Netflix accessibility.

We have been denied, ignored, and otherwise by Netflix. The third parties we have worked with, such as directors and producers and webmasters have been much more cooperative.

Still, however, Netflix has refused, directly and indirectly, to actively make their site, mobile apps, and service accessible to the visually impaired and the physically impaired. Because of this, we made a decision to file an ADA denial of accommodation complaint and a complaint to the FCC regarding the lack of an accessible site and applications.

After a Skype call, I was dubbed the task of filing the complaints. Using links from here, our previous Email attempts, phone call attempts, and more, we presented a ton if information to the needed parties and provided an Email address to get in touch. We’re just waiting on the results.

We encourage our international friends to do the equivalent in their countries. We have included links in the how you can help us link above to file complaints in different parts of the world, regarding legislators.

Why are we encouraging other countries to file legislative complaints against Netflix? Because we feel that it can make a huge difference on a global scale. Their captioning system is global despite the fact that captions are available in English a lot of the time. We feel that if more people voice their needs, we can make a difference that will change the video on demand landscape like never before
